La version instrumentale a d'abord été interprété, en 1962, par Frank Weir sous l'intitulé "Parisien" puis Cyril Stapleton et Roger Whitaker vont l'intituler "Where the rainbow ends" avant que Tony Hiller lui apporte la notoriété en 1968. Cette version sera utilisée sur Europe 1 par Christian Barbier pour ses émissions "La nuit est à vous" et "Barbier de nuit".
Puis avec des paroles ajoutées par la chanson sera interprétée pat Bing Crosby et par David Curtis.
En français, Christian Barbier a chanté "La nuit".
En néerlandais "De hoogste tijd" a été interprété par Rudi Carrell.
En allemand, le même Rudi Carrell a chanté "Ich geh' an deinem Haus vorbei".
La version italienne, "Lungo la senna" a été chantée par Betty Curtis alors qu'en suédois, "Tankar" était chantée par Gunnar Wiklund.
